Sky Ferreira Impresses in “Late Show with David Letterman” Debut

Night time is definitely her time.

And this week is definitely that of indie-pop acts on the cusp of breakthroughs.

Two days after HAIM debuted its buzzworthy “The Wire” on “Saturday Night Live,” fellow music media favorite Sky Ferreira made a late night debut of her own.

The singer-songwriter, who will support her acclaimed “Night Time, My Time” on the “Bangerz” tour with Miley Cyrus and Icona Pop next year, performed single “You’re Not the One” on Monday’s “Late Show with David Letterman.”

With a unique look, unique sound and unique stage presence, Ferreira made no flirtation with coming across as a run-of-the-mill “Late Show” performer. But with a catchy melody, an expertly controlled vocal line and a rocking, high-energy chorus, Ferreira’s live rendition of “You’re Not the One” assured she would not be dismissed as too quirky or pretentious for mainstream tastes.

The platform provided by late night talk shows is neither large nor excitable enough to transform a fringe artist into a household name. But it is a platform nonetheless, and with millions of eyeballs affixed, it is certainly a valuable opportunity for artists.

Sky Ferreira made the most of it.
