Update: FOX’s “Almost Human” Ratings Fall for Timeslot Debut

Update: The overnights painted an overly rosy picture of the “Almost Human” performance.

While the series did not flop in its timeslot premiere, it did not impress. Despite benefiting from a lack of new “The Voice” competition in the 8PM timeslot, “Human” could only muster a lukewarm 2.2 adults 18-49 rating with 6.60 million viewers.

That rating marks a 29% decline from the adults 18-49 number for Sunday’s premiere.

And, considering “Almost Human” will likely decline, at least to a degree, in the coming weeks, it will soon offer no visible advantages–and perhaps demonstrate disadvantages–over previous timeslot occupant “Bones.”

If you strip a show of its monster NFL Football lead-in and saddle it with the burden of launching its own timeslot, you have no business expecting it to match its previous performance.

Knowing that, FOX was surely not looking for Monday’s time period premiere of “Almost Human” to deliver the same numbers as Sunday’s debut.

But given the hype surrounding the show and the lack of original “The Voice” competition in the hour, it was definitely expecting the new series to perform well in its new Monday timeslot.

Based on the overnights, “Almost Human” likely met those expectations.

Down 24% from its post-football launch, Monday’s edition of “Human” delivered a 4.8 overnight rating. As long as that translates to a respectable adults 18-49 number (and one that it can sustain in the coming weeks), FOX will likely be content with the performance.

Fellow newcomer “Sleepy Hollow,” which followed “Human,” delivered a 4.6.
