Despite Solid Start, “Best Man Holiday” Can’t Top “Thor” at Box Office

“The Best Man Holiday” began its run with an impressive sum, but the sum was not enough to steal the box office throne from “Thor: The Dark World.”

The latter, which fell 55.1% from last week’s debut, managed to retain its number one position on the strength of $38.5 million. While its second week decline was larger than the 47.2% experienced by 2010’s “Thor,” its total is still stronger than that of the predecessor. After two weekends, “The Dark World” has earned $147.0 million; “Thor” had earned $119.5 million.

“Holiday” claimed second place with $30.6 million. Solid as a lump sum, the total is even more impressive on a per-screen basis: the film earned an average of $15,115 from its 2024 screens.

“Last Vegas” ($8.9 million), “Free Birds” ($8.3 million) and “Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa” ($7.7 million) completed the top five.
