“Glee” Matches Last Week’s Weak Ratings Despite “X Factor” Bump

Update: The overnight ratings were not unfairly damning for FOX’s “Glee.”

While Thursday’s episode improved slightly in the total viewership column (4.49 million), it matched last week’s low 1.5 adults 18-49 rating.

Earlier in the night, FOX’s “The X Factor” improved slightly to a 1.4 rating with 5.28 million viewers. Though up slightly from last week, its improvement was not as notable as the overnights suggested.

After getting off to a solid start in their debut as a pair last fall, the Thursday tandem of “Factor” and “Glee” has become a weekly black mark for FOX.

Not subject to competition from NBC’s “The Voice,” this Thursday’s “The X Factor” results show grew by 34% in the overnight ratings.

Unfortunately for FOX, none of that improvement spilled over into “Glee.”

According to TV Media Insights, “Glee”‘s “The End of Twerk” matched last week’s 3.0 overnight metered market rating. While its adults 18-49 and total viewership numbers might show slight gains from last week’s series lows, they will not be impressive.

Save for the Cory Monteith episode, “Glee” has been in the proverbial ratings basement since returning for its fifth season. Thanks to an early renewal, however, it will remain on the air through season six.

“The X Factor” drew a 3.9 in the 8PM hour.
