Those requiring proof now have it: ratings for the past two “The X Factor” performance shows were definitely hurt by competition from “The Voice” and the Country Music Association Awards.
But Wednesday’s ratings for “The X Factor,” that proof, also reveals that the impact was minimal. Although a portion of regular viewers opted to watch one of the competitive music programs, the harsher reality is that FOX’s “The X Factor” simply does not have a big fanbase.
Tuesday’s two-hour Top 12 performance show delivered a paltry 1.7 adults 18-49 rating with 5.76 million viewers. Up 13% from last week’s demo performance, the rating is still abysmal for such a high-profile, heavily-touted series.
FOX has yet to formally weigh in on the show’s fate, but given the reality of performances like these–and the knowledge that they will likely get worse over the next few weeks–it is hard to imagine the show is giving FOX faith in the viability of a fourth season.
