ABC’s “Agents of SHIELD” Overnight Ratings Decline to Series Low

Update: “Agents of SHIELD” indeed sank to a ratings low Tuesday night.

Down from last week’s 2.5 adults 18-49 rating and average of 7.15 million viewers, this week’s broadcast drew just a 2.1 with 6.63 million.

Lead-out “The Goldbergs” drew a 1.7 with 5.18 million, while 9:30PM comedy “Trophy Wife” managed just a 1.2 with 3.81 million. All three series have been confirmed for complete seasons at ABC.

The “Scandal for Real” special closed ABC’s evening with a 0.8 and 2.82 million viewers.

The biggest launch of the fall is no longer looking so mighty.

According to TV Media Insights, ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” continued its downward trajectory Tuesday with a decline to a 4.2 overnight metered market rating. Its lowest mark of the season, the approximate household rating was down from last week’s 4.5.

While the show remains in respectable ratings territory–last week’s 4.5 overnight translated to a 2.5 adults 18-49 rating with 7.15 million viewers–it has quickly fallen from anything that could be described as grace. At best, “SHIELD” can be referred to as a respectable addition to ABC’s schedule; it is not a monster.

ABC followed “SHIELD” with “The Goldbergs” (3.4) and “Trophy Wife” (2.5) in the 9PM hour and “Scandal for Real: The Top 10 Political Scandals of the Century” (2.3) at 10PM.
