“More Cattle, Less Bull,” this past Thursday’s “Scandal,” left Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) in a position riddled with conflict.
Shortly after receiving an offer–from a heartbroken Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) no less–to run President Fitzgerald Grant’s (Tony Goldwyn) re-election campaign, Pope and Associates received a compelling proposal from an apologetic Josie Marcus (guest star Lisa Kudrow).
Marcus, who fired Pope from her campaign after clashing on a strategic decision, admitted her regret and asked Pope’s team to return to the fold. Seeking the highest office in the land, she wanted the guidance of the land’s most talented strategist.
Pope’s heart obviously belonged to her secret, on-again, off-again lover Fitz and his campaign, but there was one very meaningful complication. While investigating the mysterious Operation Remington, Huck (Guillermo Diaz) and Jake (Scott Foley) stumbled upon startling evidence that suggested Fitz was secretly responsible for gunning down a commercial plane over Iceland.
A notable passenger on that plane? Olivia’s mother Maya.
One has to assume there is more to that story than meets the eye, and it is therefore unclear how last week’s revelation will play out in the coming weeks. But one thing does appear certain: Josie Marcus is not leaving the sphere of Olivia Pope’s interest.
ABC’s first-look at “Icarus,” this coming Thursday’s “Scandal,” reveals that the team will indeed work with Marcus on her upcoming campaign for president. The official synopsis confirms the same thing:
SCANDAL – “Icarus” – Olivia must make a very important decision that will affect all of her relationships in the White House, and Harrison’s allegiance to the Gladiators is tested. Meanwhile, the team continues to prep Josie Marcus while Cyrus and Mellie plot against her, on ABC’s “Scandal,” THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 7 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
