“The Millers,” “The Crazy Ones” Ratings Fall Without “Big Bang Theory”

Update: With less support from “The Big Bang Theory,” both “The Millers” and “The Crazy Ones” sank to ratings lows on Halloween Thursday.

“The Millers,” which directly followed an encore “Big Bang” broadcast (2.5 adults 18-49 rating, 11.56 million), drew a 2.0 rating with 9.57 million.

9PM series “The Crazy Ones” followed with a 1.9 and 8.06 million viewers, while a second “Big Bang” encore managed a 2.0 and 8.39 million.

“Elementary” closed the night with a 1.6 and 9.35 million viewers.

Because “The Big Bang Theory” repeats so well, it would be difficult to argue CBS threw new comedies “The Millers” and “The Crazy Ones” to the wolves this week.

With a 7.2 overnight metered market rating, Thursday’s encore of “The Big Bang Theory” still provided lead-in support of a stronger variety than nearly everything else on broadcast television.

But the lead-in support was down from that provided by “Big Bang” originals, and because the two new comedies were also airing on the social Halloween holiday, there was no way they were going to match last week’s numbers.

Indeed, they did not.

“The Millers,” which aired directly out of “Big Bang” at 8:30PM, declined by 10% to a 6.0 overnight rating. Its lead-out “The Crazy Ones,” meanwhile, managed a 5.1, which was 9% below last week’s number.

Airing out of a second “Big Bang” encore (5.1 rating at 9:30PM), “Elementary” then posted a 5.9 in the overnights.

While ratings will remain relevant as the shows pursue second seasons, both “The Millers” and “The Crazy Ones” have already been picked up for complete first seasons.
