Wednesday’s UFC Fight Night main-event did not begin in his favor, but by the middle of the second round, it was clear Carlos Condit was en route to avenging his 2009 loss to Martin Kampmann.
Stymied by Kampmann’s wrestling attack in the first round, Condit kept his composure and eventually broke the striking game wide open. He picked Kampmann apart in the next two rounds before finishing the UFC veteran in the fourth round with a series of knees and punches.
Condit’s win brought a close to UFC’s second “Fight Night” special on the new FOX Sports 1 network. Compelling enough to win Fight of the Night honors, the bout brought Condit one step closer to another crack at the Welterweight Championship.
In the co-main-event, Rafael Dos Anjos improved his lightweight status with an upset win over “Cowboy” Donald Cerrone. Adhering to a brilliant gameplan, Dos Anjos got the clear better of the dangerous former WEC standout in the first two rounds of the fight, assuring that Cerrone’s late surge in round three would not be enough to steal a decision.
