After spending the first half of its inaugural season building buzz and slowly growing its ratings, “Glee” rode the plum, post-“American Idol” timeslot to monster ratings and pop culture dominance.
“Glee” kept its momentum through the early part of the second season, but as the novelty wore off and the creative quality declined, so too did the ratings.
Still, the demographic crossover between “Idol” and “Glee” is undeniable, and that means any post-“Idol” airing should receive at least a slight ratings boost.
That was the case Thursday. “Glee” did not set the world on fire, but its 2.7 adults 18-49 rating marked a significant increase from the 2.0 rating for its last original.
That episode, of course, did not have comparable lead-in support. This week’s “Idol” delivered a 5.1 rating with 15.5 million.
“Glee” averaged 6.9 million viewers Thursday.
