“Stars Earn Stripes,” “Grimm” Tank in Ratings Monday

Saying “Stars Earn Stripes” did anything more than avoid disappointment last Monday was already a stretch, and with its second week numbers, even that lukewarm praise is no longer possible.

The NBC reality competition fell 35% from its premiere rating to a 1.1 adults 18-49 mark with just 3.5 million viewers at 9PM Monday. That signficant drop-off landed “Stars” in fourth among the major networks behind FOX’s “Hell’s Kitchen,” ABC’s “The Bachelor Pad” and CBS’ comedy re-runs.

Unaided by its poor lead-in, “Grimm” followed at 10PM with a 20% decline to a 1.6 rating and 4.9 million viewers. Though a decent showing against the standards set for its first season on Friday nights, for a Monday night drama against no major competition, those ratings are not positive endorsements for “Grimm.”

But as long as “Grimm” can maintain these levels when it returns to it Friday slot, survival appears well within reach.

The show did, nonetheless, win its timeslot over a re-run of “Hawaii 5-0” and new installment of “The Glass House.”
