CM Punk resumed his Twitter banter with Steve Austin last night, challenging the legendary WWE Superstar to a match at WrestleMania 29.
“29, son,” wrote Punk in a Tweet directed at Austin, who followed up, “Just worry about 28. If the stars all line up I always have a big can of Whoop Ass ready to take to NYC.”
Though the final phases of WWE’s promotion for this year’s The Rock vs. John Cena main-event received mixed reviews, the overall reaction to the year-long angle has been one of excitement. And, according to a recent F4WOnline report, WWE is looking at once again getting the jump on its WrestleMania main-event announcement.
If that does indeed prove to be the case, WWE would want to commit to some key pairings in the coming weeks, if not days. The Rock is expected to work next year’s show, and though there had been some talk of doing another Rock-Cena match next year, he teased in a recent interview that a returning Brock Lesnar could be on the radar as a possible opponent.
Lesnar, either way, represents a target score for next year’s show, with names like The Undertaker and Steve Austin also on the table as possible opponents.
As for Austin, the window is certainly closing on the viability of a return match, so next year’s ‘Mania, given the heavy New York/New Jersey marketing campaign, looks like a safe destination for that return. CM Punk and Steve Austin have casually teased the idea of working a match together, but it would certainly not be shocking if he considered one of the other strong, aforementioned names as a match candidate as well.
