F4WOnline.com reported last night that WWE has decided to end its developmental program’s run at Florida Championship Wrestling, catching virtually everyone by surprise.
While the issues associated with developmental were not secret, and were in fact profiled by that source last week, many were not aware how close the company was to pulling the plug on its Florida developmental territory. The news, though not formally confirmed in a WWE announcement, leaked Monday after the promotion apparently told local broadcaster BrightHouse Networks that it would not be producing any shows beyond the few that are already in the can.
WWE’s presence at the actual facilities could last for several more weeks, but the days of FCW serving as WWE’s developmental territory are indeed coming to an end.
For the time being, the talent involved in WWE’s Developmental program will technically be based out of the company’s headquarters. There will certainly be a new developmental territory established–it is, after all, a key business focus for Triple H, but plans regarding the launch of that new facility are uncertain.
