Brock Lesnar Retires After Bad Loss to Alistair Overeem; UFC 141 Results

Thanks to his pro wrestling experience, Brock Lesnar should have known the importance of looking confident and menacing on camera. But in every single pre-fight shot, Brock looked nervous ahead of his UFC 141 main-event with Alistair Overeem.

That apparent lack of confidence hurt Lesnar when it came to the actual fight. Lesnar never got anything going and never seemed like he wanted anything to do with the PRIDE and Strikeforce veteran. Every minor strike seemed to throw Lesnar for a loop, and Lesnar’s sole, half-hearted attempt at a single-leg takedown amounted to absolutely nothing.

Midway through the first round, Overeem’s work on Lesnar’s midsection paid off, and a kick to the body dropped a defeated Lesnar to the ground. Overeem followed up with shots to a downed Lesnar, and even though Lesnar technically covered up and blocked many of them, it was clear he wanted no more, and it was clear the fight was over. Sure enough, the ref stepped in and called it off.

After the fight, Brock Lesnar, citing the difficult battle he’s had with diverticulitis, announced his retirement from the UFC.
