There is a general rule of thumb that when a WWE wrestler’s promo disappoints, fans are to blame the out-of-touch creative team, rather than the talent, for the bad content.
That rule, on paper, would certainly seem relevant to The Rock’s recent string of underwhelming, Twitter-heavy promos, which follow the general WWE pattern of overhyping the social network.
In addition to attributing his decision to team with John Cena to his Twitter followers, Rock spent the bulk of his promo time Monday trying to get catchphrases to trend on Twitter, a strategy that overshadowed his efforts to promote Sunday’s Survivor Series pay-per-view.
According to F4WOnline.com, however, it is unfair to act as if Rock had nothing to do with the Twitter-heavy content. The story says his emphasis on Monday’s RAW was “his doing,” thereby ruling out the idea that he was compelled to do so by WWE, which internally seems unshakable in its commitment to marketing via the social channel.
