While WWE had a clear sense of where it wanted to take the SmackDown! Hell in a Cell match, at least in the days leading up to the show, the plan for the RAW match was far murkier.
F4WOnline.com reports that the finish had been changed early on Sunday, reflecting some back-and-forth over how WWE wanted its WWE Championship picture to play out.
Of note is the fact that none of the back-and-forth plans ever called for CM Punk to win the title–the options were either Alberto Del Rio or John Cena.
The entire situation, many note, was weird–Del Rio ended up regaining the championship, just a few weeks after losing it to Cena in a move that many felt killed his momentum. The feeling was that if WWE wanted to keep the belt on Del Rio (and most assume it does want him to headline the Mexico City RAW was champion), why even bother having John Cena win the belt in the interim?
