UFC Pulls Nick Diaz From Georges St. Pierre Fight, Replacement Named

UFC President Dana White made a surprise announcement Wednesday, confirming that Nick Diaz has been pulled from his upcoming UFC Welterweight Championship bout with Georges St. Pierre.

According to White, Diaz missed a scheduled flight and two re-scheduled flights to get to a press conference for the event. The UFC head honcho added that he has not even been able to get in contact with Diaz since Monday night (during the announcement, Diaz’s coach Cesar Gracie confirmed to White that he, too, is currently having trouble making contact with Diaz).

As a result, Diaz has been removed from the big main-event, and Welterweight contender Carlos Condit has been substituted into the slot.

Condit, who some contended had already done enough to earn a title shot following his dominant win over Dong Hyun Kim, had previously been scheduled for a presumed-number one contendership bout with BJ Penn. The fight was to take place on the same card.

White said they have not yet finalized a replacement match for Penn.
