Contrary to reports from last week, it turns out that it was Hunico–not a returning Mistico–under the Sin Cara mask on last week’s SmackDown!
Although Mistico is back from suspension, had apparently been brought to WWE’s shows and is available for television, WWE ultimately made the call to go with Hunico on last week’s broadcast.
F4WOnline.com reports that word apparently got to Vince McMahon that Mistico’s attitude had not greatly changed upon returning from suspension, and thus there was still backstage heat on the performer. As of press time, Hunico is looked at as the “official” Sin Cara for SmackDown! broadcasts.
Of course, after the spot-botching last week required them to re-film Hunico’s match as Sin Cara, there are also internal WWE voices pointing out Hunico’s inferiority compared to Mistico and cautioning that refraining from bringing Mistico back could ruin a lucrative, merchandise-friendly WWE gimmick.
It will thus be interesting to see who portrays Sin Cara on this week’s live SmackDown.
