Nate Marquardt, who previously kept his response to his medical situation and subsequent UFC release ambiguous, promised to clear up his situation on Tuesday.
“I will personally be addressing all issues regarding my medicals, etc this Tuesday,” Tweeted Marquardt, who was challenged by UFC President Dana White to “man up” and reveal the truth of his medical situation in a statement earlier Sunday evening.
Marquardt was scheduled to fight Rick Story in the main-event of UFC on Versus 4, but issues related to “failed medicals” resulted in him being pulled from the card. He was placed on an indefinite suspension and released from his UFC contract. A “disgusted” Dana White noted that he currently did not see Marquardt being welcomed back to the Octagon.
Since the Pennsylvania athletic commission has confirmed that Marquardt can potentially clear up his issues and get removed from the suspension list in the short-term, it would appear that his issue is not something as simple as failing for performance-enhancing drugs–that failure would normally require a suspension of a stipulated length. Various sources have also indicated it was not directly related to his presumed-large weight cut to Welterweight for the fight.
