Former WWE and current TNA name Kurt Angle claims in an interview with the WrestleCast show that Undertaker was willing to let him be the Superstar to end the long-standing WWE WrestleMania undefeated streak.
Back in 2006, Angle says that Undertaker was still eyeing that classic, five-star WrestleMania match and felt that Kurt Angle represented the kind of opponent needed to help make that happen. The Olympic Gold Medalist says that ‘Taker personally pitched moving their scheduled No Way Out match to WrestleMania 22.
A complication was the fact that Angle was the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, and WWE was not looking to have Angle drop the title to Undertaker at the time. With that in mind, Angle claims that Undertaker expressed his willingness to lose the WrestleMania match if that is what it would have taken to make Angle vs. Undertaker the WrestleMania 22 main-event.
Ultimately that did not pan out–Kurt Angle ended up wrestling Rey Mysterio and Randy Orton in a triple threat match while Undertaker battled Mark Henry in a Casket Match.
Worth noting, of course, is the fact that Angle ended up losing the title to Rey Mysterio on the show, so WWE was clearly not deadset against having Angle leave WrestleMania sans a championship.
