WWE Veterans Debate Over Randy Savage’s Heat with WWE, Vince McMahon

Although returns from veteran wrestlers and nostalgia acts have typically been at the forefront of speculation and excitement regarding WWE’s storyline plans, one name that has rarely been on the list in the past decade is that of the late “Macho Man” Randy Savage.

For reasons that were never clear to the public, the word had been that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon was as opposed to using Savage as virtually any other veteran in the business. While many have long been led to believe that McMahon’s edicts could change if the right opportunities presented themselves, the idea of featuring “Macho Man” Randy Savage in a WWE storyline had been said many times over the past several years to be very out of the question.

Speculation has run rampant about what created that heat between McMahon and Savage, with even high-profile sources buying into wild rumors as they tried to understand the situation. Many wrestling fans are aware of these notable urban legends, although an authoritative source has never revealed their authenticity.

In conjunction with Savage’s passing on Friday, however, Roddy Piper shed some light on what might have caused the McMahon-Savage heat. In a Twitter stream of reflection on Savage, Piper quickly noted, “Randy slapped Vince in a bar…End of that story!!”

Sean “X-Pac” Waltman, however, strongly debates that such an incident created the long-standing heat between Savage and McMahon. He wrote, “I respectfully disagree w Roddy. Not that it didn’t happen, but its not where the heat came from.” He later responded to a fan’s inquiry, “Its [sic] between Vince and Randy. Why do u think u have the right to know their personal business?”
