Randy Couture, in the fight he has been saying will be his last-ever bout in the Octagon, had his hands full with a challenge against former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida.
Though Machida was coming off two losses, he still ranks as one of the best fighters in the world and definitely posed a threat to Couture.
Win or lose, it looked to be the end of Couture, but would he end his UFC career on a high-note? Or, would Machida use a victory to get back in contention.
The result follows:
Lyoto Machida b. Randy Couture via KO (front kick) at 1:09 of Round Two
Story of the fight: Couture survived the first round, but it was clear there was little he could bring to the table against Machida. Machida was able to elude his forward movement and clinch control, and the timing on Machida’s counter strikes seemed to find Couture unprepared. In round two, Machida faked a kick with his left and then slipped a right front kick onto Couture’s chin that finished the fight.
After the bout, Couture again confirmed this was his last career fight.
