UFC President Dana White confirmed to MMA Fighting Friday that the Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard title rematch is, as expected, scheduled for UFC 130 in Las Vegas.
The bout, a third contest between the two fighters, will headline the May 28 card that is also expected to feature Frank Mir vs. Roy Nelson and Thiago Silva vs. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
UFC Lightweight Champion Edgar was originally scheduled to fight final WEC Champion Anthony Pettis in a unification bout, but due to the draw outcome of his January 1 fight with Gray Maynard, the organization decided to pursue another rematch.
The undefeated Maynard beat Edgar in a 2008 non-title bout.
— White also told the outlet that Wanderlei Silva’s next opponent could be Brian Stann, who most recently upset Chris Leben with a TKO victory. Silva has been eyed as a desired opponent for a number of middleweights, including Chael Sonnen and Leben, but White’s comments suggest Stann, who recently expressed interest in fighting Silva, will be the one getting the bout.
