“Mothers Opposing McMahon” Group Rips WWE Over Eugene Character

The “Mothers Opposing McMahon” group, an organization opposed to the possible election of Linda McMahon as United States Senator, ran a video involving Eugene as part of its campaign this weekend.

Referencing a letter from a mother who has a 32-year-old mentally retarded son who feels WWE should “never have made money on” an angle involving the beatdown of a mentally-challenged wrestler, the video first shows a brief introductory clip establishing the Eugene character for William Regal. After quoting McMahon on the form of entertainment WWE delivers, it then cuts to a backstage segment involving Vince and Shane McMahon sliming and then beating down the wrestler.

The clip, available here, features the caption, “As CEO of the WWE, Linda McMahon marketed to kids programming featuring a character with developmental disabilities being beaten, humiliated, and verbally abused.”

After generating support from McMahon opponents on facebook (including from one who wondered why a “Katie Vick” video has not been produced), the most recent few “comments” have featured individuals coming to the aid of McMahon and WWE, attributing the risk of children emulating violent acts on television to the parents.
