Following widespread criticism for the UFC 112 event, UFC 113 represented the company’s opportunity for redemption with fans. Its main-event of Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua was also about redemption, as the latter sought the opportunity to avenge his heavily-disputed decision loss to Light Heavyweight Champion Machida in their rematch.
Meanwhile, Josh Koscheck and Paul Daley were to meet in a battle to determine the number one contender for Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre. With a shot at the title already on the line, the fight also offered an additionally appealing reward in the chance to coach against GSP on the next season of the very popular “The Ultimate Fighter” franchise.
Elsewhere, Kimbo Slice made his UFC pay-per-view debut against fellow “TUF” alum Matt Mitrione.
