In an addition to downplaying the company’s reaction to TNA iMPACT!’s impending move to Mondays by noting that RAW is in “good shape,” WWE spokesperson (presumably Robert Zimmerman) also said that RAW and iMPACT! reach a “somewhat different audience.”
“It’s somewhat of a different audience,” the spokesperson said, according to THR. “On Monday nights we’re one of the top cable shows. We’re focusing on our new show for Syfy, “NXT,” and ‘Wrestlemania XXIV.'”
The comment apparently refers to the fact that iMPACT! is a TV-14 show while WWE RAW is PG, an irrelevant point given the fact that both shows have a median viewership age in excess of 35.
There is, however, some truth to the WWE spokesperson’s comments–in comparing channel-switching between the January 4 RAW and iMPACT! and the January 11 RAW and UFC Fight Night, a case could be made that the latter two were more clearly fighting for the same audience.
