Both men coming off losses to some of the division’s most physically impressive, UFC veterans Matt Serra and Frank Trigg locked horns at UFC 109: Relentless.
Would Serra return from his decision loss to Matt Hughes with a victory? Or, would it be Trigg rebounding from the crushing knockout defeat to Josh Koscheck?
The victory went to Matt “Terror” Serra, who put Trigg away with an early first round knockout. With neither ground-based fighter interested in taking the fight to the mat, both focused on their stand-up. Neither Trigg nor Serra is a technical wonder on the fight, but Serra was far more comfortable and landed all of the key early shots. He eventually dropped Trigg with a right hand and then followed up on the ground to get the finish.
Matt Serra defeated Frank Trigg via knockout (strikes) at 2:23 of Round One.
