UFC is aggressively counter-programming tonight’s Strikeforce broadcast on CBS, but its website is nonetheless promoting the show headlined by Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers.
As part of its website Twitter feed, UFC.com features comments from WEC fighter Danny Castillo on the main page. His latest Tweet, and the top current post on UFC.com, reads, “Come hang out at ‘Players’ tonight for the Fedor fight. The whole Alpha Male gang wt be in the building!!!”
Though the post is hardly tantamount to an official endorsement of the Strikeforce show, it does show the value a Fedor fight has to the mixed martial arts community.
Aware that it would have virtually no chance of beating a live MMA broadcast on CBS, UFC opted not to run a live card against tonight’s show. It is nonetheless hoping to make a dent in the Strikeforce event’s ratings by running a “Main Event” special on Spike, featuring the free-television debuts of fights like Randy Couture vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin.
