The quartet of lightweights involved in the division’s most high-profile recent fights will all appear on the UFC 107 card.
The previously-discussed battle between Kenny Florian and Clay Guida has been moved to UFC 107, which features Lightweight Champion BJ Penn vs. Diego Sanchez in the headline spot.
UFC originally eyed the TUF 10 coaches battle between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Rashad Evans for the December main event, but Jackson pulled off the show–presumably to perform a rumored role as BA Baracus in the upcoming A-Team film.
MMA Junkie tentatively adds Frank Mir vs. Cheick Kongo and Thiago Alves vs. Paulo Thiago to the card as rumored matches.
Sanchez, relatively new to the lightweight division, earned his shot at Penn’s belt by defeating Clay Guida in a fight universally viewed as one of the year’s best bouts. Florian, meanwhile, is coming off an unsuccessful UFC 101 try for Penn’s gold.
