WWE teases history in a press release issued Monday, explaining that next week’s WWE RAW event is “in jeopardy of being cancelled.”
Addressing the heavily-reported scheduling “impasse” for next week’s event, WWE notes that a resolution to the promotion’s issue at Denver’s Pepsi Center has not been resolved.
The “impasse” erupted in response to the Denver Nuggets’ advance into NBA’s Western Conference finals. They will play host to the Los Angeles Lakers next Monday, a date which interferes with a previously scheduled RAW event.
In the release, WWE explains that it booked the date on August 15, 2008 and anticipates a “sell-out crowd” for next week’s show. WWE’s Vince McMahon further criticized the Nuggets, “Even though the Denver Nuggets had a strong team this year and were projected to make the playoffs, obviously Nuggets and Pepsi Center owner Stan Kroenke did not have enough faith in his own team to hold the May 25th date for a potential playoff game.”
Most do expect the situation to be resolved. PWInsider.com, nonetheless, did report that WWE turned down an alternative venue–the Denver Coliseum–due to concerns that the smaller arena could not house all ticketholders.
