Brand New may be on the verge of scoring its first #1 album in the United States.<\/p>\n

Based on (limited) opening weekend data, Hits Daily Double projects that Brand New’s new “Science Fiction” will close the week with 55-60,000 pure US sales. The figure will yield a #1 bow on the Billboard Top Album Sales Chart.<\/p>\n

“Science Fiction” will only receive a negligible boost from TEA (track sales\/10) and SEA (track streams\/1500), but a combined unit total in the 55-60K range should still be enough for #1 on the Billboard 200. Kendrick Lamar’s enduring “DAMN.,” which would be the biggest threat, shifted 43,000 units last week (and will doubtfully make a big gain this week).<\/p>\n

“Science Fiction” is the band’s first studio album since 2009’s “Daisy,” which peaked at #6.<\/p>\n

It may be the band’s last, at least for the time being.
