The bad news: This year’s adults 18-49 rating and viewership average trail last week’s numbers.<\/p>\n
According to live+same-day data posted by Showbuzz, the BET edition of the ceremony averaged a 1.54 adults 18-49 rating and 3.83 million overall viewers.<\/p>\n
Last year’s show drew a 1.95 rating and 4.50 million viewers.<\/p>\n
Like the 2016 show, the 2017 ceremony was simulcast across a myriad of Viacom networks (MTV, VH1, Spike, Comedy Central, etc). As ratings for the concurrent airings were generally on par with or weaker than last year’s numbers, they do not close the aforementioned viewership gap between the 2017 and 2016 shows. This year’s ceremony, indeed, reached fewer live+same-day viewers than last year’s show.
