The weekend’s only major new release takes #1 on this week’s US weekend box office chart.<\/p>\n
“The Fate Of The Furious,” that film, tops the chart thanks to an estimated $100.2 million in opening weekend receipts.<\/p>\n
While down considerably from the $147.2 million posted by predecessor “Furious 7,” the tally is obviously nothing at which to sneeze. It markedly tops that posted by any other film in the US this week, and it contributes to a global weekend record.<\/p>\n
With international markets included, “Fate Of The Furious” earned $532.5 million globally. That breaks the record previously held by “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($529 million).<\/p>\n
The overseas component ($432.3 million) also represents an all-time high — by a considerable margin, in fact. Previous record-holder “Jurassic World” earned $316.7 million internationally in its first weekend.<\/p>\n
As far as the US box office goes, “The Boss Baby” falls to #2 after a two-week reign at #1. It earned $15.5 million, which brings its cumulative total to $116.3 million.<\/p>\n
Down one place, “Beauty And The Beast” takes #3 with $13.6 million (cume now $454.6 million).<\/p>\n
“Smurfs: The Lost Village” slips a spot to #4 with $6.5 million (cume now $24.7 million), while “Going In Style” dips a place to #5 with $6.4 million (cume now $23.4 million).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"“The Fate Of The Furious” predictably opens as the #1 film in the US.
