This past Friday, Kandi Burruss made considerable waves with an Instagram post about the success of Ed Sheeran’s “Shape Of You.”<\/p>\n
It was not the idea of congratulating Sheeran that garnered attention. Rather, it was her note about sharing in the success of the song.<\/p>\n
“Congrats #edsheeran @teddysphotos for having the #1 album! & thank you for allowing @majorgirl [Tiny] & I to share in the success of #ShapeOfYou! #1 for 7 weeks,” wrote Burruss in the caption.<\/p>\n
Astute fans speculated that Burruss may have been referencing the fact that she, Tameka “Tiny” Harris and Kevin “She’kspere” Briggs — the writers behind TLC’s 1999 smash “No Scrubs” — received retroactive credit on “Shape Of You.” Many fans and entertainment personalities had, after all, been pointing out a similarity between the “Shape Of You” pre-chorus and the “No Scrubs” chorus.<\/p>\n
Another set of astute fans confirmed the speculation by locating the ASCAP listing on “Shape Of You.”<\/a> Burruss, Briggs and Tiny are now credited as co-writers alongside Sheeran, Steve Mac and Johnny McDaid.<\/p>\n Burruss and Tiny provided further confirmation by sharing a Tweet about the credit on their Instagram accounts.<\/p>\n “Shape Of You” has proven to be a global phenomenon. In the US, it is about to earn an eighth week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is also the reigning, multi-week #1 at pop and hot adult contemporary radio.<\/p>\n\n
