While it was still a major attraction that will surely rank as one of the year’s top television telecasts, the 89th Academy Awards ceremony did not fare well in terms of typical Oscars standards.<\/p>\n
Per overnight metered market data posted by Programming Insider, Sunday’s show drew a 21.4 overnight household rating.<\/p>\n
Down from the 23.4 household rating drawn by last year’s ceremony, the figure ranks as the lowest since the 20.8 drawn by the 2008 show.<\/p>\n
The ceremony’s adults 18-49 rating and viewership average will likely arrive Monday afternoon (the “fast national” data that emerges at 11AM ET will not account for the fact that the show aired live in all US time zones).<\/p>\n
