Going into the episode, ABC promised that Thursday’s “How To Get Away With Murder” season finale would reveal the truth behind Wes’ death.<\/p>\n

It delivered on that promise.<\/p>\n

At the conclusion of the first hour and start of the second hour, the episode suggested that a character played by Nicholas Gonzalez killed Wes (and started the fire). Later, it outright confirmed he was responsible for both — he drugged Wes, strangled\/suffocated him following a struggle, and then triggered the explosion.<\/p>\n

The episode initially wanted viewers to assume he was doing the dirty work of Todd Denver (Benito Martinez), who may have been working with the Mahoney family.<\/p>\n

That was not the case.<\/p>\n

Late in the episode, Laurel, Asher and Michaela devise a plan whereby Michaela would seduce Charles Mahoney (at a restaurant in New York) so that the three could confront him about his suspected role in Wes’ death.<\/p>\n

Michaela initially participates, but she and Asher ultimately get cold feet about confronting a potentially dangerous man (in addition to potentially murdering Wes, we learn that he – not his father – was the man who raped and impregnated Wes’ mother). Laurel refuses to back down and pulls\u00a0out a gun.<\/p>\n

As she marches toward Charles with the presumed intent of killing him,\u00a0Nicholas Gonzalez’ character pops up and greeted Laurel in the New York street. \u00a0The encounter thwarts any murderous intention she may have had.<\/p>\n

The conversation reveals Gonzalez’ character to be Dominic, a longtime friend of Laurel’s family. An accompanying flashback confirms that Dominic killed Wes per the instruction of Laurel’s father<\/strong><\/em>, not Denver or the Mahoney family.<\/p>\n
