Two versions of original song “We Can Always Come Back To This” were featured prominently in Tuesday’s “This Is Us.”<\/p>\n
Twenty four hours have passed since the broadcast, and both versions now have prominent positions on the US iTunes sales chart.<\/p>\n
Brian Tyree Henry’s (credited as Brian Tyree) version is #17 on the all-genre single sales listing as of 9:55PM ET, while Hannah Miller’s take is #64.<\/p>\n
Entitled “Memphis,” Tuesday’s superb “This Is Us” provided a glimpse into William’s backstory (through flashbacks) as his present-day death drew near.<\/p>\n
While in Memphis as a young man, William was part of a band led by his cousin Ricky (played by Brian Tyree Henry). They were initially a cover band, but William had aspirations of writing original songs. “We Can Always Come Back To This” was the first song he completed, and it was proof that he — and the band — could be something special. Ricky sang the song beautifully in the initial performance, and doors to legitimate success seemed to be opening.<\/p>\n
(Those doors would close when William left town, initially to care for his sick mother)<\/p>\n
Hannah Miller’s version played at the end of the episode — as the dying William and his biological son Randall (Sterling K.
