Ariana Grande has condemned sexism in various interviews and social media posts.<\/p>\n
Tuesday night, the entertainment superstar took to Twitter to again voice her opinion on societal misogyny.<\/p>\n
Per the Tweet, Grande and her boyfriend Mac Miller were leaving a restaurant when a young boy approached the couple. The boy quickly established himself as a Mac Miller fan, and excitedly followed the couple to their car.<\/p>\n
“I thought all of this was cute and exciting until he said, ‘ariana is sexy as hell man…i see you, i see you hittin’ that!'”<\/p>\n
Grande’s excitement at encountering one of Mac Miller’s young fans quickly evaporated; she felt “sick and objectified.”<\/p>\n
“Things like that happen all the time and are the kinds of moments that contribute to women’s sense of fear and inadequacy,” continued Grande. “I am not a piece of meat that a man gets to utilize for his pleasure. I’m an adult human being in a relationship with a man who treats me with love and respect.”<\/p>\n
The singer-actress adds that society’s comfort with this form of objectification hurts her heart. She decided to share this story because “most women know the sensation of being spoken about in an uncomfortable way publicly or taken advantage of publicly by a man.”<\/p>\n
Grande calls for society to talk about these issues openly in order to underscore the harm they cause.<\/p>\n
“If we don’t, [the misogyny] will just continue,” declares Grande. “We are not objects or prizes. We are queens.”<\/p>\n
