Demi Lovato recently criticized Taylor Swift, and she is not apologizing.<\/p>\n
Lovato was the subject of a Monday “Entertainment Tonight” feature (tied to a Glamour Magazine cover shoot), and the conversation included some shots at Swift.<\/p>\n
Lovato, specifically, questioned whether Taylor Swift’s behavior reflects female empowerment.<\/p>\n
“I think having a song and a video about tearing Katy Perry down, that’s not women’s empowerment,” said Lovato, in clear reference to Swift’s “Bad Blood.”<\/p>\n
Lovato was also critical of female “squads.” The quote featured does not mention Taylor by name, but it does reference the Swift situation in context. Entertainment Tonight’s piece, moreover, ran the quote alongside images of Swift with thin “squad” members like HAIM, Gigi Hadid, Martha Hunt, Karlie Kloss, and Cara Delevingne.<\/p>\n
“This will probably get me in trouble, [but] I don’t see anybody in any sort of squad that has a normal body,” said Lovato. “It’s kind of this false image of what people should look like.”<\/p>\n
Controversy, predictably, erupted. Swift supporters alleged hypocrisy, noting that Lovato was tearing Swift down — and criticizing a particular body type — in a commentary about how Swift tears women down and promotes a certain body type.<\/p>\n
Lovato Tweeted a response Tuesday morning. While she suggested an aspect of her statement may have been taken out of context, she refused to apologize for saying what “everyone” wants to say.<\/p>\n
“I get asked questions. I answer them. Sue me,” wrote Lovato. “Also don’t forget that words can be taken out of context when doing interviews.. still not apologizing for saying what everyone want [sic] to say.”<\/p>\n
She also questioned why people were so interested in her comments.<\/p>\n
“I don’t understand why people care so much about what I say in interviews? Do y’all watch the news?
