Live+same-day data does not tell the whole story regarding interest in Disney Channel’s new animated series “Elena Of Avalor” (or any modern television program).<\/p>\n
The story it does tell, however, is not a favorable one. Initial viewership for Friday’s “Elena” was down sharply from that of the July 22 premiere.<\/p>\n
According to L+SD data posted by Showbuzz, Friday’s “Elena Of Avalor” drew a 0.24 adults 18-49 rating, a 0.26 adults 18-34 rating and 1.23 million total viewers.<\/p>\n
The Disney Channel broadcast of the July 22 premiere event fared far better from a live+same-day standpoint, drawing a 0.45 among adults 18-49, a 0.46 with adults 18-34 and a 2.22 million viewership sum. A Disney Junior simulcast added a 0.24 in the adults 18-49 demographic, a 0.27 in the adults 18-34 segment and an additional 1.02 million in total viewership.<\/p>\n
This Friday’s episode was also down substantially in many other key youth and young adult demographics.<\/p>\n
Disney touted solid live+3 and streaming gains for the July 22 premiere, and the hope is that this week’s episode will receive a similar (if not bigger) lift. The live+same-day viewership, moreover, is not terrible by the network’s recent standard: outside of “Girl Meets World,” most of the network’s shows — including some that air in later, more desirable timeslots — have been posting similar audience marks.<\/p>\n
Those qualifications aside, it is still impossible to find cause for celebration in such a sharp post-premiere drop.<\/p>\n
“Elena Of Avalor” led into “Best Friends Whenever,” which posted a 0.23 adults 18-49 rating, a 0.21 adults 18-34 rating, and 1.26 million in total viewership.<\/p>\n
“Girl Meets World” followed with far stronger marks.
