After ruling for two straight weeks, G-Eazy x Bebe Rexha’s “Me, Myself & I” will surely cede its pop radio throne this week.<\/p>\n
Attention has thus turned to a simple question: which song will become pop radio’s next #1 hit?<\/p>\n
Following the first two days of the April 17-23 tracking week, ZAYN’s “PILLOWTALK” has emerged as the leading candidate.<\/p>\n
ZAYN’s solo debut single received 4,561 spins during those two days. Up 10.3% from the count at this point last week, the tally slots “PILLOWTALK” at #1 on Mediabase’s building chart.<\/p>\n
DNCE’s “Cake By The Ocean,” which represents another potential candidate for the top slot, is presently #2 on the building chart. It received 4,383 spins during the tracking week’s first two days, a count that bests last week’s mark by 3.4%.<\/p>\n
While its lead is certainly not insurmountable, “PILLOWTALK” — as evidenced by its greater week-over-week increase — also has more momentum. If both songs remain on their current trajectories, the ZAYN single will claim #1 on this week’s official Mediabase pop chart.<\/p>\n
It will, of course, be interesting to see if and how Republic’s radio promotions team, which declared that the DNCE single is “heading #1 this week,” will work to impact those trajectories.<\/p>\n
Other notable gainers in the chart’s upper reaches include Mike Posner’s “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” (4,234 spins in the first two days, +8.1%, #4 on building) and Lukas Graham’s “7 Years” (4,019 spins, +17.1%, #5 on building).<\/p>\n
The aforementioned “Me, Myself & I,” which received 4,378 spins during the tracking week’s first two days (-4.4%), is #3 on the building pop airplay chart.
