While not officially announced by the Recording Academy, Lady Gaga had long been booked to perform at this year’s Grammy Awards ceremony.<\/p>\n
The nature of that performance changed, however, following David Bowie’s untimely passing. CBS and the Academy today confirmed that Gaga will perform a tribute to the iconic artist at the February 15 ceremony.<\/p>\n
“Affording audiences a chance to experience Bowie’s music once again, the tribute will be a multi-sensory testament to the superstar’s incredible artistry and a reflection of his limitless creativity,” says a press release of the performance, which will be directed by Bowie collaborator and friend Nile Rodgers.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had already booked Lady Gaga on this year’s show, but when David passed \u2013 almost in a single moment \u2013 we knew we had to change direction. We immediately spoke and agreed that she should be the one to honor David. She\u2019s perfect for it. So I reached out to Nile and, before long, we were on our way to creating what we believe will not only make a great GRAMMY Moment, but one fitting of David,\u201d said Grammy executive producer Ken Ehrlich.<\/p>\n
Previously confirmed performers include Adele, James Bay, Andra Day, Ellie Goulding, Sam Hunt, Tori Kelly, Kendrick Lamar, Little Big Town, Carrie Underwood and The Weeknd.
