“Gossip Girl” fans should consider themselves lucky that the series has already been renewed by The CW for a fourth season, as the show’s return rating Monday was disastrous.<\/p>\n
The show came in at a low 1.0 adults 18-49 rating with 1.76 million viewers. Though its lead-in from “Life UneXpected” (1.99 million viewers, 0.9) was lower than what it had been receiving from “One Tree Hill,” the data for an established show clearly indicates that the average viewer is simply uninterested.<\/p>\n
Young female demographics, which are the show’s saving grace, will be released later and should show that “Gossip Girl” at least retains a following among that population segment.<\/p>\n
“Two and a Half Men,” meanwhile, was on the other end of the spectrum for CBS. It posted a season-high 5.8 rating with 17.54 million viewers, tying companion “The Big Bang Theory” in the young adult demographic and clearly winning among total watchers (16.26 million, 5.8).<\/p>\n
Other ratings notables: CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother” (10.32 million, 3.9) remains solid as CBS’ 8PM lead-off, and “Rules of Engagement” once again outpaced “Accidentally on Purpose” as an 8:30 series (10.15 million, 3.6). “CSI: Miami” dipped to 11.89 million and a 3.3, however, preventing CBS from treating its entire evening as a total positive.<\/p>\n
NBC struggled–“Chuck” was down to a 2.3 with 6.31 million viewers, while “Trauma” bombed with a 1.4 and 4.78 million viewers. With limited lead-in support, “Law & Order” averaged just 5.18 million viewers and a 1.5, effectively mirroring what “The Jay Leno Show” was doing at 10PM.<\/p>\n
ABC’s lineup included “Jason and Molly’s Wedding” (9.26 million viewers, 2.8) from 8-10PM and “Castle” (9.09 million, 2.4).
