“Alice in Wonderland” predictably dominated the box office this weekend, posting the highest figure for a Q1 release in history.<\/p>\n
With $116.3 million in estimated returns, “Alice” blew away previous-record holder “The Passion of the Christ,” which pulled $83.8 million in February 2004.<\/p>\n
It also annihilated the box office competition this weekend; the nearest finisher was new release “Brooklyn’s Finest” with $13.5 million.<\/p>\n
“Shutter Island” was nearly behind, grossing an estimated $13.3 million for third place. In its second week, “Cop Out” averaged $9.1 million for fourth, besting the $7.7 million for “Avatar.” “The Crazies” fell to sixth with $7 million, a disappointing decline of 56.3% for a film that was very well reviewed.<\/p>\n
