By selling a whopping 695,043 US copies during the most recent tracking week, Adele’s “25” easily claims #1 on a third straight Billboard Top Album Sales chart.<\/p>\n
Generated during the December 4-10 tracking week, the tally brings the US “25” sales total to 5.186 million. Since the start of the Soundscan era, no other album has generated that many sales in a three-week period.<\/p>\n
In crossing 5 million this past week, “25” meanwhile became the first album since Adele’s own “21” to sell over 5 million copies in a calendar year.<\/p>\n
“25” easily holds off Coldplay’s “A Head Full of Dreams” on this week’s chart. The follow-up to “Ghost Stories” sold 194,522 US copies during its first week of release.<\/p>\n
“Ghost Stories” sold 383,000 copies during its inaugural frame.<\/p>\n
With Track Equivalent Albums (track sales\/10) and Streaming Equivalent Albums (track streams\/1500) added to the sales total, “25” generated approximately 728,000 weekly consumption units during the December 6-12 tracking week. That allows it to retain its #1 spot on the Billboard 200.<\/p>\n
The Coldplay album takes #2 with ~210,000.<\/p>\n
