Final Ratings Update:<\/b> The time period premiere of CBS’ “Supergirl,” which notably aired without lead-in support from “The Big Bang Theory,” declined by 29% from last week’s series premiere.<\/p>\n
It nonetheless remained solid from a competitive standpoint.<\/p>\n
Monday’s episode posted a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating. Down sharply from last week’s 3.1, the number was this week’s best for a CBS Monday night show. It also tied that of NBC’s “Blindspot” as the best for a scripted Monday night show.<\/p>\n
This week’s “Supergirl” reached a total of 8.865 million total viewers (down from 12.955 million last week).<\/p>\n

Update:<\/b> Airing without “The Big Bang Theory” lead-in support or premiere week curiosity, Monday’s “Supergirl” was inevitably going to suffer a sharp ratings decline.<\/p>\n
Indeed it did.<\/p>\n
That decline did not, however, prevent the show from posting solid marks.<\/p>\n
Per fast national data, Monday’s episode posted a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating with 8.853 million total viewers. A far cry from last week’s performance, which included a 3.1 rating and a 12.955 million viewership total, the performance was still decent by conventional standards.<\/p>\n
“Supergirl” was its timeslot’s #2 broadcast program in adults 18-49 (behind “The Voice”) and #3 broadcast program in total viewership (behind “Dancing With The Stars” and “The Voice”). It also comfortably topped FOX’s comic adaptation “Gotham” (1.6, 4.300 million).<\/p>\n
While this week’s performance was ultimately still a solid one, “Supergirl” may not be done declining. Most series — even those with far better reviews — tend to decline for several weeks after their premiere.<\/p>\n
The show still has some room to fall, but its right to the “hit” label will hinge on quick stabilization.<\/p>\n

While deflated, the overnight household rating nonetheless reflects a solid performance.<\/p>\n
Per Nielsen Metered Market Data, Monday’s “Supergirl” drew a 5.8 overnight household rating in its regular 8-9PM timeslot.<\/p>\n
That substantially trails the 7.9 posted by last week’s episode, which aired in the 8:30-9:30PM slot following a “Big Bang Theory” episode.<\/p>\n
This week’s household rating, nonetheless, remains comfortably ahead of the 3.0 posted by FOX’s “Gotham” and 0.8 posted by The CW’s “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.”<\/p>\n
And while it markedly trails the numbers posted by ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars” and NBC’s “The Voice,” it has a strong chance of topping the former in the key adults 18-49 demographic.<\/p>\n
The solid tag applies to this week’s number, but it does not guarantee a long-term future for “Supergirl.” Many shows — especially those with mixed reviews — tend to endure several weeks of declines before settling. “Supergirl” will need to find that point of stability soon to retain any semblance of a “hit” label.<\/p>\n
