The introduction of four high-profile albums – including two behemoths in Luke Bryan’s “Kill the Lights” and Dr. Dre’s “Compton” soundtrack – prevented “Descendants” from retaining #1 on the Top Album Sales chart.<\/p>\n
The album did, however, hold up well in its second week.<\/p>\n
According to Hits Daily Double’s data, which should differ only slightly from the final Billboard report, the “Descendants” soundtrack moved approximately 22,864 pure copies during the August 7-13 tracking week. That tally trails the album’s official opening week total (29,584) by only 23%.<\/p>\n
The 23% week two decline is 2015’s smallest for an album that debuted at #1 on Top Album Sales.<\/p>\n
This week’s sales total should be enough for a #5 position on this week’s Top Album Sales chart. Only “Kill the Lights,” “Compton,” NOW 55 and tobyMac’s “This is not a test” fared better from a pure sales standpoint.<\/p>\n
