Everyone knew “Jurassic World” was going to be big. Only a handful correctly guessed that it would be “Avengers big.”<\/p>\n

According to weekend estimates, “Jurassic World” grossed $204.6 million in its opening weekend. If that number holds, it will rank as the #2 opening weekend performance on record.<\/p>\n

Only 2012’s “The Avengers,” which earned $207.4 million in its first weekend, got off to a hotter start. 2015 sequel “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” which analysts expected to score the summer’s biggest weekend, started with $191.3 million.<\/p>\n

Thanks to “Jurassic World,” that now ranks as the #3 opening weekend.<\/p>\n

The opening weekend take is by far the greatest for a “Jurassic Park” film. The 1993 original opened with $47.0 million; “The Lost World” (1997, $72.1 million) and “Jurassic Park III” (2001, $50.8 million) followed.<\/p>\n
