By scoring a whopping 86 monitored Mediabase adds and thus landing in a class of its own, Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney’s “FourFiveSeconds” might have obscured the fact this past week was an extremely busy one at pop radio.<\/p>\n
A wide array of tracks from some of mainstream music’s most exciting prospects formally impacted the pop radio format. And while none commanded the same kind of reception as “FourFiveSeconds,” most got off to respectable starts.<\/p>\n
Natalie La Rose’s “Somebody (featuring Jeremih)” and Echosmith’s “Bright” emerged as the week’s hottest newcomers. The tracks, which were each picked up by 26 monitored Mediabase stations, tied for most-added among newcomers (and second-most-added overall).<\/p>\n
Both songs had received adds–and ample airplay–in advance of their official February 3 impact dates. “Somebody,” which is an “On the Verge” pick (and member of the rolling top fifteen) at rhythmic radio, is already pop’s 33rd most-played song. As of February 3, “Bright” was the pop format’s 50th most-played track.<\/p>\n
Rixton’s “Hotel Ceiling” represented the format’s next-most-added newcomer (and overall track). The song, which Rixton hopes will perform more like hit debut single “Me and My Broken Heart” than disappointing follow-up “Wait on Me,” scored 24 adds in conjunction with its official impact.<\/p>\n
“Lay Me Down,” the third single from Sam Smith’s “In the Lonely Hour,” followed as pop’s fourth-most-added newcomer (and tied with Flo Rida’s “GDFR” for eighth overall). It won support from 20 monitored stations.<\/p>\n
Next up was Charli XCX’s “Doing it (featuring Rita Ora).” The collaboration between previous Iggy Azalea collaborators earned 19 adds to rank fifth among newcomers and tie for tenth (with Calvin Harris’ “Outside” and Jessie J’s “Masterpiece”) among all songs.<\/p>\n
Epic’s aim to effort to turn Zara Larsson’s Scandinavian hit “Uncover” into a US success received support from 15 monitored stations. The newly impacting song was pop’s sixth-hottest newcomer (and fourteenth-hottest overall).<\/p>\n
Andy Grammer’s “Honey, I’m Good” debuted with 7 impact week adds. Seventh among new entries, it was positioned at #25 overall on the pop radio add board.<\/p>\n
