HBO’s current Sunday comedy block brings vanity, buzz, critical interest and respectable multi-platform viewing, but it certainly does not bring live viewers.<\/p>\n
Comedies “Girls,” “Togetherness” and “Looking” all posted unremarkable numbers Sunday.<\/p>\n
The fourth season premiere of “Girls,” which kicked off HBO’s evening, drew a 0.4 adults 18-49 rating with 680,000 viewers. The viewership total was the lowest ever for a “Girls” season premiere, and insofar as the prior two seasons also launched opposite NBC’s Golden Globes broadcast, the competitive landscape does not excuse the decline.<\/p>\n
And while one might be inclined to acknowledge the loss of lead-in support (last year’s bow, which aired out of “True Detective,” drew 1.10 million viewers), the 2013 season premiere aired in the same 9PM ET timeslot and attracted 870,000 viewers.<\/p>\n
Leading out of the soft “Girls” telecast, freshman comedy “Togetherness” bowed with an even softer 0.2 adults 18-49 rating and 427,000 viewers.
